Ted Rau

SoFA Operational leader

Ted spends most of his time training and consulting in sociocracy and leading SoFA as an organization. Ted is co-author of the sociocracy handbook Many Voices, One Song. He enjoys writing articles, and teaching meeting facilitation. People and their universal need to connect and move things are at the center of his attention. He pays attention to the co-housing movement, transgender rights, and non-violent communication.

Outside of SoFA work, Ted is a parent of 5, former linguist, and singer-songwriter. His first career was in Academia where he worked in syntax/semantics and pragmatics -- and the big question of what's a fact from a linguistic perspective. Within the last few years, his life has changed in big ways. He worked full time, then spent 3 years as a stay-at-home homeschooling parent, now is back to working full time again. In the same time frame, he's done his gender transition.

The training in linguistics taught Ted to find patterns that work well for the human mind, to work empirically, and break things down so they can be understood. Being a parent of 5 had taught him to be extremely pragmatic... maybe this earned him the label of being a "manifestor"; at the end of the day, dinner must be on the table no matter whether the new vision statement is done!

I enjoy working with people and I am amazed by all the capacities that exist within the human being. This and my confidence that we can be much happier if we move to more collaborative systems is what has always driven me to work accompanying groups and organizations in the way they are organized.
I am a certified Consultant with organizations and a Sociocracy trainer. I give training in the international online programs ProPS  (Sociocratic Deepening and Practice) and  FS  (Sociocratic Facilitation), in addition to other training and accompaniment in face-to-face and online modalities.
I am part of the Mission Circle of  Sociocracy For All, an organization for which I work and in which I coordinate the Spanish-speaking area: Sociocracia Práctica. I am also a teacher and mentor at the Academia de Sociocracia .

I am passionate about Non-Violent Communication, which has been part of my life for about 10 years. Recently I resigned from a consulting company which is implementing development cooperation projects, mostly in Asia and Africa, in order to focus on my desired work (play), which is facilitating NVC trainings and practice groups (I have enjoyed this in Cambodia since October), as well as providing behavior change communication/health promotion consulting services and - in future - trainings on sociocracy. For the last 6 years I have worked in Asia, first in Nepal, now in Cambodia. Sociocracy is fascinating for me, it seems to be the missing link when it comes to living and working in a constructive, appreciative and creative spirit and getting stuff done. NVC and sociocracy seem the perfect combination to create work environments which are motivating and allow employees to develop their full potential.

SoFA Eastern Europe

I am a practitioner and promoter of selforganization at work. I am a business consultant, trainer and coach. My mission is 'to build bridges' between traditional management and innovative governance based on participation. My great respect for achievements and strengths of traditional business comes from my 20 years of experience in corporations and consulting. I specialized in customer experience, large scale transformation programs, strategy and management consulting for telecoms.
My passion and commitment to share the innovative governance systems come from the belief that good communication and collaboration of people working together is key to better future of societies and our planet.
My toolbox includes mastering of Sociocracy (classic and S 3.0), solid grasp of Holacracy, perfect understanding of organizational development processes, well internalized non-violent communication, continuously growing coaching abilities, strong facilitation practice and talent for conflict resolution.
I approach organizations with attentiveness to their needs and uniqueness. I do not provide fit-to-all solutions. I rather assist in their own journey offering a helping hand, objective, yet experienced, perspective and advice, richness of inspiring and effective methods for trying out.
Privately I am a mother of two magnificent teenagers and a wife of a handsome engineer. We live in a forest near Warsaw.

Abbie Kempson

Abbie Kempson

SoFA coop circle

Passionate about co-operative working and building social justice into the heart of our organisations, Abbie has a long-held interest in participatory processes for collective decision making and action. She was drawn to sociocracy for its practical approach to supporting democratic self-governance and its synergy with the core values of co-operation - from the self-help and self-responsibility of organising collectively to actively contribute to solving problems and improving our lives (whether in work, co-housing, activism, community organising), to supporting equality (one member one voice), equity (fairness through meeting the needs of all who engage) and solidarity.

Member of Unicorn Grocery worker co-op, where she has helped integrate sociocratic practice into the co-op’s governance structure, and with a background in community development and education, she has many years of experience of delivering training in meeting facilitation and consent and consensus decision making. Abbie is trained as a Barefoot Co-op and Community Business Development Practitioner and is currently appointed as an adviser to the UK Co-operative Governance Expert Reference Panel.

Eric Tolson Solis

Eric Tolson Solis

Sociocracia Práctica

Eric currently resides in Mexico City, where he is originally from. Whilst studying highschool in the United States, he became engaged in social movements, particularly with the cooperative movement and with alternative economies more broadly. Ever since, he has been dedicated to the construction, connection, and strengthening of self-managed organizations as a life project and as a political venture. He graduated from SoFA’s first SoLT cycle, where he first encountered sociocracy. Eric sees sociocracy as a handy tool in the development of self-managed organizations, but also as part of a radical cultural shift: learning to relate to one another in emancipatory and anti-oppressive fashion, as peers. He likes to think that the success of our species relies on good teamwork, and therefore aspires to get to know, practice, and spread the best praxis for collaboration. With inclinations towards the humorous and a strong commitment to liberation, Eric holds workshops in the Valley of México, is a member of Sociocracia Práctica and co-translator of the sociocracy manual Many Voices One Song. A good friend of paradoxes, Eric identifies as a Professional Anarchist. Some of his main interests are: popular pedagogies, gender, philosophy, creative storytelling, complexity/systems thinking and ultimate frisbee.

Known as a way-shower on the path to wholeness, Bernadette supports change-makers and their organizations navigate the choppy waters of volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA). Her motto is, “You can’t have power-with unless you have power-within”. She draws upon her diverse business experience as CEO of an international start-up providing global sustainable wood sourcing and furniture design, Founder of a wisdom school for pre-adolescents and Sr. Marketing Analyst for Honeywell, Inc. As an advanced Energy Psychology practitioner and Generative Dialogue Facilitator, her coaching and consulting masterfully integrates the healing of the individual and the collective.

It was a conscious move toward creating a life that felt more aligned with her family’s values and their desire to live more sustainably. Her work is driven by a burning desire to assist in the transformation of the old organizational systems that no longer work and to support leaders and teams in becoming more human-centric, self-sustaining and to thrive in this time of great change on the planet.

Pierre is a transition trainer and facilitator that one day started asking if there was a better alternative to the majority and minority principle to decide. He got in touch with sociocracy, falling in love quite immediately.
Living in Italy, where sociocracy was barely known yet and "Socio... what?" was the typical reaction, he surfed the web in search of information, training, coaching, books, videos. When he came across Sociocracy For All, he was excited right away. He was the first to sign for the SoFA newsletter once it was out and became an early collaborator and member of SoFA. He is amazed to see the dream of SoFA growing and growing; he feels it is just the right place to be.Thanks to the training he could access through the internet and the experience and support in SoFA, he started to give Introductory presentations and Workshops on Sociocracy and with the growing experience to consult and train organizations that want to implement it. In his dreams, there is a network of Italian Sociocracy trainers and facilitators, connected with the wider international network, that uses Sociocracy in synergy with other tools to support Autonomous · Equivalent · Interdependent · Individuals to build the most beautiful world they know is possible.
