I spent the last two weeks of June volunteering at two courses focused on ancestral skills and survival practices. It was a joy to watch my teenage and twenty-something child explore, grow, push themselves and engage with the 50 or so other people engaging in the journey.
The first course, focused on skills (pottery, baskets, gathering food, etc.), pushes capacity. How much can we push our edge to grow and provide for ourselves and our community?
The second course focused on tracking and awareness. Can we follow the story of the animals through the landscape? Can we understand our own movement on the Earth and the tracks we leave behind? Are we aware of what is happening around us? Can we develop our ability to hold multiple perspectives and at the same time see clearly what is unfolding? Can we verify what we see in the track rather than filling in with stories and assumptions?
These experiences enrich me as a person and build my own capacities for participation and collaboration within SoFA. What enriches your experience here?
Coming back to SoFA meetings and membership, I see that we are (mostly) on pause and waiting for the transition to the network. There are also some concerns and some needs for understanding. If you are one of those people, I encourage you to reach out – to me or to another member of General Circle or the leader of the circle(s) you participate in – to clarify and understand.
I am reminded that we create SoFA with every meeting in every circle. I look forward to moving to our next stages and continuing our journey toward fulfilling our mission together.

✨ Highlights
New Software decisions and management policy
This policy has three goals. The first goal is to bring more clarity and transparency to the software used by SoFA. The second goal is to clearly define the area of responsibility of IT Circle. The third is to help any SoFA member or circle understand how they can obtain support for using any software tool for SoFA work, including new tools.
SoFA members can benefit from understanding how IT Circle thinks about the ownership of responsibility for these tools, as well as what software IT Circle or Website Circle currently supports for use in SoFA.
Website Circle and Web Content Publishing changes.
Changes to Website and Web Content Publishing (WCP) Circles:
- Website Circle is now part of SoFA Support Services Circle, alongside IT Circle and Financial Wellbeing Circle.
- WCP Circle is dissolving.
- Website Circle will handle web infrastructure and support content publishing, but not publish content itself.
Key changes:
- Circles will publish their own web content.
- Website Circle will provide support and training.
- A community of practice for web content publishers will help members share feedback and operational details.
Actions needed:
- Introduce members who will handle web content publishing to Website Circle for onboarding and support.
- Contact Website Circle if your circle lacks capacity to publish content.
- Share any questions or feedback about these changes with Website Circle.
