Sociocracy with Youth and in Education conference 2023

Description

Sociocracy can build on the inherent capacity of children to work together. We will be looking at how to set up projects that are engaging, empowering and age-appropriate. Two case studies from Western Australia will be shared including the short documentary, Harvest Bounty. Based on the project of running a restaurant evening, we see children taking pride in what they achieve together, adults taking inspiration from the children, and communities enriched by the experience.

Bio

Co-founder of The Sociocracy Consulting Group, Gina brings beauty, harmony, and wisdom when working with schools, communities, and businesses. Weaving life experiences as a polar scientist, homeschooling mother and organization consultant, her practice is well grounded. She is the Executive Director of Earth Funerals (https://earthfunerals.org/) and holds a PhD in atmospheric physics.

Olly is a primary school teacher at Kwoorabup Nature School in Denmark Western Australia and spends all his time with children outside. He has been trained by Gina Price through the Sociocracy Consulting Group and now helps deliver Foundations Of Sociocracy Courses. For the last 3 years, Olly has been teaching sociocracy to children at school and they have used it to govern their imaginary country in the forest and to organize a School Fete.

I have been an educator and Primary School Principal for more than 20 years, educating children in urban, rural, and remote areas of Western Australia. Allowing students opportunities to be involved in making informed decisions and having a valued voice is important to me. Working with Gina Price and the students through the Harvest Bounty Restaurant taught me valuable processes to guide the students in making informed, supported decisions. This experience was a highlight of my career.
