Members of Sociocracy For All believe that Sociocracy can be an effective companion of the free-culture movement. Both efforts desire to share power broadly among people who can benefit from it, and each community can benefit from the tools that the other provides. In Free and Open-Source Software Projects, power is focused into the capabilities of the software. Other Free Cultural works, such as Wikipedia, offer access to a wealth of information, which facilitates understanding and clarity. Free and Open-Source Projects value the free participation of people anywhere, and this resonates strongly with the SoFA vision of ensuring that no one is ignored as we’re trying to work together. We want to learn more about how Free and Open-Source Projects may be benefiting from Sociocracy right now, and we want to support your project if you want to embrace Sociocracy or connect with other projects that are using Sociocracy.
Our Free and Open-Source content
We in SoFA are also committed to the principles of the free-culture movement: one of our aims includes sharing materials primarily under a Creative Commons license. The SoFA Creative Commons library includes the Sociocracy manual Many Voices, One Song. One of our goals is to build up a community around maintaining and enhancing that library.
Connect with us
Currently, this work in SoFA is held by Free and Open-Source Content (FOSC) Sector Circle, which is a child circle of Ecosystem Circle. FOSC Sector Circle is in early stages yet: if you would like to connect with us around any of the above ideas or possibilities, you have a couple of options. The SoFA Discussion Forums provide a public place for organizing many different threads of discussion around Sociocracy. You can also contact the circle directly by email, and we would be happy to connect with you!
We also have a map of SoFA members and organizations that use Sociocracy, and we would be happy to work on adding you to that map.
