About the Event. So, you want to build a cohousing community! The effectiveness of your forming group plays a crucial role in how successfully you can achieve your dream. The joy, ease, and cost-effectiveness of working with cohousing professionals—like developers and architects—greatly depend on how well your forming community functions.

Professional consultants from Sociocracy For All can help your community work effectively together. Sociocracy (also known as Dynamic Governance) is a comprehensive governance approach that values every voice and fosters collaboration.

This webinar will feature a panel presentation with professionals who work with cohousing communities:

  • Jerry Koch-Gonzalez – Co-founder of Sociocracy For All and a 31-year resident of Cherry Hill Cohousing.
  • Mathilde Berthe – Co-founder and Designer at Studio Co+hab, Mathilde Berthe is a student of sociocracy who has worked with Bozeman and Louisville Cohousing communities and others
  • Bryan Bowen – Principal Architect at Caddis Collaborative and housing developer familiar with sociocracy, who worked with Treehouse Village, a sociocratic community.

The focus of the webinar will be on the early stages of community formation: how to get organized effectively enough to work with professionals. The discussion will also explore how the relationship between the community and professionals can work well within the context of sociocracy, especially when both the community and the professionals are familiar with this approach to decision-making..

Who’s this for? This session is designed for anyone involved in forming a cohousing community, especially those in early stages of organizing or actively working with professionals. It’s also valuable for developers, architects, facilitators, and other professionals who support community-led housing and want to better understand how Sociocracy can improve collaboration and communication with resident groups.

Whether you’re brand new to Sociocracy or already familiar with its principles, this event will offer practical insights to help your group and your professional partners work more effectively together.
