Practice facilitation in a safe space
This facilitation class is a potent combination of short teachings and lots of practice to mature as a facilitator and address the most common pitfalls. Every session has a theme: Integrating objections I+II, Staying on topic I+II, Dealings with feelings, Muddy situations.

Topics
Address the most common pitfalls of sociocratic meetings head-on in realistic role plays.
- A tried and tested format:
- mini lecture at the beginning
- scenarios – everyone gets a turn facilitating for embodied learning
- reflection in plenary
- We will practice integrating objections with focus on the steps of integrating, and then on different ways of integrating objections;
- We will look at better agendas and how to facilitate different kinds of agenda items effectively, and what to do when we slide off track or don’t know what to talk about next.
- What if feelings get in the way? Address them or ignore them and focus on the meeting? Who decides what?
- What kinds of muddy situations are there? What if, for example, a visitor objects, or someone questions basic assumptions while we’re trying to decide something?

Anne Sheridan
Anne is a trained facilitator and self-identified “process nerd” with over two decades of experience in collaborative decision-making and anti-hierarchical organizing.
She enjoys both teaching sociocracy to individuals and helping organizations figure out how sociocracy can address their particular needs.
Anne also has experience with post-growth economies, conflict engagement, and Nonviolent Communication and believes a well-run meeting is one of life’s great joys.
Leander Roth
Leander Roth is the co-founder and mythematician of worker coop Spring Up, and co-host of the podcast Getting Free Together. He has a background in sociology, entrepreneurship, and restorative / transformative justice. Leander is a systems thinker and conflict strategist who enjoys supporting organizations in building shared power and decentralization. Some of their trainings through Spring Up include: Harm Systems Design, Power and Consent in Decision Making, Conflict and Consensus, and Getting Free Together. Their organization also offers 1:1 and group conflict mediation.
