Sociocratic elections for other decisions (not for filling roles)

This is a very easy way to add another tool to your facilitation toolbox, building on something you already know!
Sometimes we have many options to choose from, and quite often, groups are overwhelmed when time comes to make a choice. The sociocratic selection process can help if we use it for other choices than roles. For example, we can use the selection process to “nominate” specific dates to hold our retreat. Or we can use it to nominate themes for an event, or a monetary amount for dividing up cost. That way, we have a clean, orderly, and more robust way of making choices, using qualifications and criteria that are clear.
In this session, we’ll both talk about different ways of using the selection process – and we will try them out! Ideally, every participant will have had the chance to facilitate the selection process for something other than roles at least once.
Our scenarios will include:
- Selecting a $ amount
- Selecting a date
- Selecting a helping circle (e.g. resolution group) from outside the circle
