Why Google Groups?
Google Groups are useful not just for communicating between groups of people, but also for managing sharing permissions on Google Drive.
For all Circle Members
How to share a file with your circle’s Google Group
You can share a google drive file or folder with the circle group in two ways:

You can send a message to your circle’s group by emailing the group, something like: [email protected]
For Circle Role Holders (like the Secretary!)
So you’re a Sociocracy For All circle secretary (or helping the secretary out) and you want to add (or remove) a member from your Google Group?
How to add/remove members to Google Groups.
To add your group members:
- Sign in to Google Groups.
- Note: Make sure you sign in with the email address you are using for SoFA’s Google Drive. This may be @sociocracyforall.org email address or whatever email you specified for Google Drive sharing.
- Click My groups.
- Click the name of a group.
- On the left, click Members.
- At the top, click Add members.
- You can either “directly add” or “invite” members. Just complete the forms in order to add them.
Note: Members cannot add and remove people from a group. Managers can. Usually only circle role holders (like the secretary) are “managers”. Other circle members are usually just members.

How do you change Google Group Notification Preferences?
All group members can adjust their own notifications settings. Group Managers (like the secretary) can also manage notifications for other members.
To set your own notification preferences for your specific email address. This can be: all emails, or digests (summaries) at desired intervals. You can change this setting in “My Membership Settings→ Subscriptions”.

What about other settings? Are you having trouble with Spam messages or Moderation Queue?
There are other settings that can be changed too, including who can send messages to the group. If you find that you are receiving spam emails or unwanted volume, this may need to be changed. Ask [email protected] if you’d like help changing this setting.
If you are being asked to moderation messages which are not spam, you can relax the spam controls:
- Sign in to Google Groups.
- Click the name of a group.
- On the left, click Group settings > Posting policies.
- At the top right, next to Advanced, click Turn on
.
- Under Spam message handling, select Post suspicious messages to the group.
- Click Save changes.
