SUMMARY:Psychological Safety and Conflict Resolution Planning
DESCRIPTION:About this class\n\n\n\nHow can sociocracy create a culture where all voices can be heard\, disagreement is welcome\, and people feel comfortable to be themselves? This training will highlight how the concepts of psychological safety and generative conflict can be intentionally cultivated through your facilitation and implementation of sociocracy. This is for you if:  \n\n\n\n\nYou have struggled to hold objections or disagreements when they arise\n\n\n\nYour group tends to agree to every proposal\n\n\n\nThere is a lot of similarity of experience and opinion in your group \n\n\n\nPeople get activated in your meetings and struggle to stay engaged \n\n\n\nYou’re not sure what steps of conflict response should happen in a circle meeting \n\n\n\nThe same conflicts and tensions have been coming up for years\n\n\n\nYou’ve had a lot of membership turnover in your group\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainer\n\n\n\nMichelle Tsutsumi \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Tsutsumi (she/her) lives in Secwepemcúl’ecw (BC\, Canada) and brings a depth of experience from her background in sensorimotor trauma therapy\, organic farming\, and communications. For over 20 years\, Michelle has used a systems lens to co-create participatory spaces where justice and equity are more structurally present within the nonprofit\, food justice\, and co-operative sectors. Through the workers co-op that she co-founded\, Michelle co-designs processes that enact anti-oppression\, community building\, and decolonial practices within self and organizations. Michelle became a Certified Sociocracy Facilitator in 2023 and a Certified Sociocracy Trainer in 2025. She currently holds the leader role in the SoFAN Co-op Circle and the SoFA English Practitioner Support Circle\, which tends to Academy and additional learning spaces. She is especially interested in practices that facilitate emergent spaces and the stamina to navigate transitions. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nLeander Roth\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLeander Roth is the co-founder and mythematician of worker coop Spring Up\, and co-host of the podcast Getting Free Together. He has a background in sociology\, entrepreneurship\, and restorative / transformative justice. Leander is a systems thinker and conflict strategist who enjoys supporting organizations in building shared power and decentralization. Some of their trainings through Spring Up include: Harm Systems Design\, Power and Consent in Decision Making\, Conflict and Consensus\, and Getting Free Together. Their organization also offers 1:1 and group conflict mediation. You’re welcome to sign up with Leander for individual coaching to support you at any stage of your implementation journey\, email for a free intake call for group training or consulting\, or just reach out to connect. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nDuration and time zone\n\n\n\nDATE: September 25\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTIME: 16:00 – 18:00 UTC \n\n\n\nCheck your local timezone here: \n \n\n\n\nPrice and Tickets\n\n\n\n\n\nYou can request a 30% group discount for groups of 3+ people. The class will cover: \n\n\n\n\nCircle Structure\n\n\n\nConsent-decision making\n\n\n\nCircle Roles\n\n\n\nSelection Process\n\n\n\nObjections\n\n\n\nFeedback\n\n\n\nEfficient Meeting Format\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainers\n\n\n\nMaheen Shafiabady:\n\n\n\nI help human-centered leaders interested in a new way of working to harness the capacity and power of individuals for innovation and collaboration through distributed decision-making systems. I see sociocracy as a clear method for building compassionate and productive teams. \n\n\n\nSociocracy found me when I consulted for a CEO who wished to embed it across the organization. I am now a Certified Practitioner\, soon-to-be-Certified Facilitator\, and am currently in Academy Level 2 to increase my comprehension and application. I also hold an MS\, Organization Development; BS\, Communication & Education; and am President for the Bay Area Organization Development Network.  \n\n\n\nBased in the territory of the Ohlone-Tamien people–also known as Santa Clara\, CA–I love balancing simple joys like family game nights with planning my next adventure–whether multi-day wilderness backpacking\, road trips\, or learning a new language. \n\n\n\nEmily Lücke:\n\n\n\nMy pronouns are she/her and I live on unceded\, unsurrendered Anishnabēg Algonquin territory in so-called Cantley\, Quebec. I’m a farmer\, bartender and community advocate who learned about sociocracy through an interest in intentional communities. I aim to embody sociocracy everywhere I go and am currently working on my Academy 2 badges.  I am particularly interested in land use\, food systems\, harm reduction and dismantling white supremacy. 🙂 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrice and Registration\n\n\n\n\n\n$100 USD – 2 sessions X 3 hours \n\n\n\n\nYou can request a 30% group discount for groups of 3+ people. SUMMARY:Living Into Our Values
DESCRIPTION:A common story: mission-driven organizations that write beautiful words on their website. But under the hood and behind closed doors\, it’s the same old same old power dynamics. It’s disheartening to see how many organizations struggle to be the organization they want to be – despite best intentions. The missing link is often the lack of a governance system that creates conditions where a positive culture can evolve and thrive.  \n\n\n\n\nInstead of unacknowledged power-over or apathy\, find clarity. \n\n\n\nInstead of pretty words and analysis paralysis\, find action. \n\n\n\nInstead of saying “we’re inclusive and we care”\, implement the structures that support it. \n\n\n\n\nMany of those aspects can be addressed by the governance system sociocracy. We will show why awareness-based approaches and good intentions alone can’t address a lack of integrity\, and what practices and tools actually work – not for being perfect but closer to who we want to be.  \n\n\n\n\n\nThis webinar is part of our Leading Together with Sociocracy webinar series for non-profits\, small biz\, activists\, and communities. Check out the other two webinars: \n\n\n\nFounder Dynamics – breaking unhealthy power dynamics through intentionality. \n\n\n\nFirst Steps Into Sociocracy – ways to experiment\, inspire & implement \n\n\n\n\n\nPresenter\n\n\n\nTed Rau\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTed is an advocate\, trainer and consultant for self-governance. SUMMARY:Sociocracy workshop in Amherst
DESCRIPTION:In-person beginner + advanced workshop \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\n\nSociocracy gives structure to how to collaborate together toward a shared vision. This workshop is a great introduction to the participative decision-making structure for the 21st century! \n\n\n\nSociocracy is the groundbreaking decision-making method transforming how organizations collaborate and function. In this all-day event\, we will delve into the principles and practices of sociocracy\, equipping you with the knowledge and skills to revolutionize decision-making within your team. \n\n\n\nSociocracy is a transformative approach that empowers individuals and groups to make better decisions\, enhance communication\, and foster a sense of ownership and accountability. Attending this workshop will give you valuable insights into the core principles that underpin sociocracy. Discover its potential to revolutionize your community and group dynamics. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe offer two parallel tracks: one for beginners and one for more advanced learners: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeginner track\n\n\n\nThis track is best for people who have very little experience with sociocracy. \n\n\n\nAn overview of the most important parts of sociocracy: \n\n\n\n\nOne of the fundamental aspects of sociocracy is consent decision-making. Unlike traditional methods that rely on majority votes or top-down authority\, sociocracy ensures that every voice is heard and considered. Through a series of engaging activities and discussions\, you will learn how to facilitate consent decision-making processes.\n\n\n\nAnother key principle of sociocracy is decentralized power. By distributing authority and responsibility throughout the organization\, sociocracy fosters a sense of autonomy and ownership among team members. You will explore practical strategies for implementing decentralized power structures\, enabling your team to operate with increased effectiveness\, resilience\, and creativity.\n\n\n\nSociocracy also offers techniques for improving meetings. Say goodbye to long\, unproductive meetings that drain your team’s energy and time. We will show the meeting format that you can use for effective and inclusive meetings.\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of this workshop\, you will walk away with a solid understanding of how sociocracy works in a community and what its benefits are. \n\n\n\nThis track will be taught by Jerry Koch-Gonzalez. \n\n\n\n\n\nAdvanced track\n\n\n\nThis track requires basic familiarity with sociocracy: structure\, meeting format and consent process ready to practice. \n\n\n\nWe will focus on the facilitation of difficult situations – with objections\, emotional situations or difficult processes. \n\n\n\n\nObjections – what can we do in the case of an objection? What steps do we take and what options do we have? \n\n\n\nWhat if the meeting steers off track\, when people criticize my facilitation or the agenda? What if we don’t even agree on what we should talk about?\n\n\n\nHow can we plan agendas that make meetings smooth and productive? \n\n\n\nHow can we draft a proposal together so all perspectives are heard and considered from the get-go? \n\n\n\n\nWe will work with lots of demos\, small-group exercises with direct support and reflection. The main topics will be: \n\n\n\n\nObjections\n\n\n\nAgendas\n\n\n\nPicture forming and proposal shaping\n\n\n\n\nThis track will be taught by Ted Rau. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe invite you to bring a home lunch; we will provide snacks. After the workshops\, we hope you can stick around for social networking time. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n\n8:45 am: Gather \n\n\n\n9:00 am: Beginner track and Advanced track begin\n\n\n\n1:00 pm: Bring your own lunch and eat together (optional)\n\n\n\n2:00 pm: Walk the grounds of Chery Hill Cohousing (optional)\n\n\n\n\n\nI learned a lot and have a great understanding of the Sociocracy process after the beginners’ class. It was engaging and enjoyable. I appreciate the opportunity to work with folks from many backgrounds through the class exercises.. I am looking forward to continuing my sociocracy education and implementing it in my groups! \nTami Gingrow\, Fayette County\, Pennsylvania\n\n\n\nTrainers\n\n\n\nOur sociocracy basic methods classes are taught by certified sociocracy trainers. \n\n\n\nTed Rau\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTed is an advocate\, trainer and consultant for self-governance. These funded and unfunded collaborations range from 3 to 50 people spanning 3-7 years. On a personal level\, I live with my polycule family of 6 where we’ve collectively managed our household resources since 2018\, in the past I’ve lived in a residential co-op for several years. I was first drawn to sociocracy because I wanted to run good meetings with people I care deeply about and respect; I’ve stayed because the decisions we make together are richer and (frankly) more fun than going it alone! \n\n\n\n\n\nDuration and time zone\n\n\n\nThis event is TWO 3-hour sessions\, one on Sept 7 and one on Sept 21. SUMMARY:Nonviolent Communication (3x2h)

It covers basic concepts with many examples. All sessions are participatory with time for questions and answers. \n\n\n\nNVC meshes beautifully with sociocracy because it allows us to listen well\, make ourselves understood on a deeper level\, and explore together how we can co-create solutions that work for everyone. \n\n\n\nThe classes will be taught by Jerry Koch-Gonzalez\, co-founder and staff member of Sociocracy For All and certified NVC trainer. All sessions are participatory with time for questions\, role-plays in small groups. \n\n\n\nLevel\n\n\n\nAny level. \n\n\n\nTopics\n\n\n\nAll classes include presentation\, practice\, and time for questions. SUMMARY:Nonviolent Communication (3x2h)
DESCRIPTION:Introduction class \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this class\n\n\n\nThis is a 3-session introduction class to compassionate communication (Nonviolent Communication\, NVC). The class will cover needs\, feelings\, requests\, empathy. \n\n\n\nAll events will be held on zoom (a video platform). You will receive the zoom link after registration. If you have questions on the class\, send an email to: events@sociocracyforall.org \n\n\n\nWhat others said\n\n\n\n“Jerry’s workshop was so awesome. I loved the framework and the space for vulnerability. It was really useful to work through the framework in small groups and his personal stories were super engaging and informative.” \n\n\n\n“I loved the part about making requests\, because people often assume that others know what their needs are.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTrainers\n\n\n\nOur sociocracy basic methods classes are taught by certified sociocracy trainers. This trainer is also certified as an NVC trainer. \n\n\n\nJerry Koch-Gonzalez\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJerry has been committed to nonviolent social change all his adult life. In the last 10 years\, he has focused on his work in sociocracy. Jerry used to be part of The Sociocracy Consulting Group\, and he is co-founder of Sociocracy For All where he now works full time. SUMMARY:Co-creating proposals (learn and practice)
DESCRIPTION:Basic sociocracy methods \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this class\n\n\n\nThere are different ways to create a proposal. One is simply for one person to write a proposal. That’s efficient and quick. Yet\, it loses perspectives and might actually be slower in the long run if we look at missed opportunities and connections\, length of time to work out kinks of a proposal\, and potentially a loss of buy-in over time. \n\n\n\nWhen co-creating a proposal\, doing it well is of the essence. Brainstorming and strategizing as a group can be all over the place\, and it’s often prone to mission drift – we start solving an issue\, and all of a sudden\, our solution is to something else or only covers half.  \n\n\n\nThat’s why it’s useful to learn how to write a proposal together quickly\, and without losing track of the issue we’re trying to solve! This class shows how to do that in a three-step process. \n\n\n\nLevel\n\n\n\nOpen to all levels. \n\n\n\nTopics\n\n\n\nGood proposals made together! \n\n\n\n\nHow to understand an issue\, solve it and implement a solution – together.\n\n\n\n3-step process of co-creating a proposal\n\n\n\nPractice with 3 scenarios so you’re comfortable using the process in real situations!\n\n\n\n\nAll classes include presentation\, practice\, and time for questions. \n\n\n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n0:00-0:20Overview0:20-0:45Demo (fishbowl) and debrief0:45-1:10Practice round 11:10-1:35Practice round 21:35-1:45What’s next? She has been actively involved in Sociocracy for All since 2018 and has held many roles including coordinating the 1st cohort of the Sociocracy Academy in Spanish (2021-2022). She’s currently a member of the Organizations Support\, Training\, and Web Content Publishing circles at SoFA.  \n\n\n\nZujeil holds a Masters in Public Health. Her study of the social determinants of health led her to an interest in cooperation\, collaboration\, and support systems which then led her to the study of self-governance. Zujeil was born in Mexico and resides in Philadelphia\, PA\, USA. She is mom to 2 very active homeschooled boys.  \n\n\n\n\n\nDuration and time zone\n\n\n\nThis event is one 2-hour session on May 30.
